Icelandic Chickens
Occasionally we will have limited hatching eggs and chicks for sale. When we do, below is how we will have them priced. We will advertise our chicks and eggs for a short season and when our list is full we will close it until the following spring. We are keeping our list short to maximize quality in your future stock and to work on raising and growing our own flock. We take pride in what we do and want to give you the best of us and the best of our chickens' efforts. Which is more important than having a huge list and cranking out orders. We look forward to having you add these beautiful birds to your farm, it may just take a bit with how our system will work. Please feel free to inquire about the waiting list or look below to see if it has been closed for the time being. Thanks for choosing our farmstead to give you quality stock and thanks for being patient with us as we go down our list and meet customers needs. Even if it means you may have to wait a while, we will treat you with the same care as we treated the person before you.
(If the hens are on schedule they should start to lay Mid April/Early May).. If you are on the wait list for your eggs we will contact as soon as they are laying and we know the eggs are fertile. We will open our list to new customers wanting eggs once we know they are fertile and we have started to move smoothly down the list of those who have been waiting for their eggs...)
.
Hatching eggs: will be available mid spring 2015 (open until laying season is over)
$25/dz (we have a dozen every 4 days)
$15/half dz
Chicks: will be available late spring/early summer 2015 : We will not be shipping chicks out of state. We felt it was in our farms best interest to keep our chicks local. (This is subject to change and when and if it does we will post.)
We ask: $8/chick with a minimum of 6 **Pick Up Only**( when we are ready to set eggs we will have our waiting list open, it will be in limited quantity)
We will be opening up a limited list for those who are local who may want chicks shipped. Sometimes the drive is still too far even with being in the same state, and we understand. When that waiting list is available we will post and when we have reached our limit we will close it until further notice. We are trying to be purposed on quality and keeping a short seasonal list.
***the list for Va shipped chicks is not open please check back often to see if this option is available****
Check in on our blog The Punzel Farmstead to see more information on these birds and our journey with a Landrace Chicken..there are differences that I never knew about and look forward to comparing and sharing what we personally find different.
We are also under construction on a FAQ blog page for Icelandics called Icelandic Chicken Chat that will have more in depth pictures and video of our growing flock. It will show early plumage and rambunctious behavior at an early age that I have never seen before. I am hoping to share recipes for those who are wanting to harvest some and opening the floor for you to share your experiences with them and your recipes and trial and errors while raising your flock as well. For starters, Did you know that the roosters can start to crow at 4 weeks of age?
****Yes, our lines are pure..as we received our stock from David Grote of Whippoorwill Farm in Wisconsin and our most recent stock from Harvey Ussery in Virginia.******
